Background
SEIU-CAPE was tweaking its 2008 legislative agenda and wanted state employees to know more about the issues affecting their jobs. SEIU-CAPE also wanted a high profile reminder to public employees of the benefits of membership. They hosted in the fall a series of regional meetings around Colorado to brief state employees on upcoming out-of –session legislative committee meetings and give them a preview of their own 2008 wish list.
The Need
Our primary goal was to increase attendance at the meeting. Our secondary goal was to gauge the effectiveness of the SEIU CAPE mailer.
Our Solution
We set up a toll free hotline to recruit public employees’ attendance. We set up the system in concert with SEIUCAPE mailings to several thousand state employees (SEIU members and potential members). The automated RSVP system included a request that the state employee use the telephone keypad to enter the 5 digit number that was unique on each mailer. We also captured phone numbers so the client could call state employees with additional details on the meeting. The SEIUCAPE will retrain these phone numbers for future calls to action.
Results
We hosted the toll free hotline for 11 days to capture responses from the mailer. We captured the responses. There was healthy attendance at this initial forum with plenty of information on important legislative matters.
